John 9

In John 9, Jesus heals a fella who’s been blind since birth. First, his disciples ask why he was blind, was it his sins, or his parents’? Jesus responds…

‘”It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. ‘
John 9:3

I find it fascinating that after he regains his sight, his neighbors don’t really recognize him. They can’t see him, now that he can see. The Pharisees can’t see past their own knowledge to see God at work. They throw the fella out of the synagogue, right into the arms of Jesus.

‘Then Jesus told him, “I entered this world to render judgment—to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.” ‘
John 9:39

Those who claim to have it all figured out are often the ones most blinded by their own certainty.

Today’s reading, John 6, shows Christ’s absolute authority. A boy hands Jesus 5 loaves and 2 fish—barely enough for a family—, yet Jesus feeds 5,000 people, with 12 baskets left over. This defies explanation; only God could do it. Christ is the authority over all things. Later, the disciples are 4 miles out in rough…

Just as Pharaoh didn’t listen to God’s warnings in Exodus 10 and 11, we see history repeating itself today. Our “leadership” in the United States has been corrupt for decades.
