John 8

The story of the woman caught in adultery in John chapter 8 is one of Jesus’ most famous moments. But verse 12, 31-32 spoke to me.

‘Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” ‘
John 8:12

I’ve read that Jesus says “follow me” 13 times in the New Testament. Here, Jesus says, “If you follow me”, I think of how much better life would be if we followed Jesus daily. We would have his light that leads to life, instead of fumbling around in darkness on the wrong path. What if we were to slow down, pause, and ask, “Who or what am I following now?” Am I walking in the light that leads to life?

We often hear people say “and the truth, will set you free.” But there’s a lot more to what Christ actually said, we need to remain faithful to his teachings and then the truth will set you free. There’s a requirement for being a disciple a true Christian remains faithful to what Jesus taught.

31Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ‘
John 8:31-32
