Luke 1

Man, there’s a lot to take in. We have prophecies, angels, and miracles. The first chapter of Luke is a wild ride. Can you imagine an angel appearing to you, as he did to Zechariah? Gabriel, the angel, told Zechariah, Your wife is going to have a son. You are to name him John. He was terrified at the sight.

I wonder what Gabriel would have done if Zechariah were a dork and said That’s great, and John, well, that’s a good name. But, you know, we were really thinking of naming him Zeke Jr. I can see this vast, light-filled angel, rolling his eyes and gripping his sword handle, ready to pounce. I’m glad Zechariah wasn’t a dork.  He probably had Proverbs 21:23 memorized.

‘Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble. ‘
