Luke 21, and S.O.A.P

Instead of my usual summary, I was really focused on Luke 21: 34-36. If you aren’t familiar with the S.O.A.P Bible study method, here’s an example from me today.

S.O.A.P. Bible Study Method: Begin with a prayer, inviting God’s guidance and support, asking Him to open your heart and mind to His truth.

S – SCRIPTURE Write down the Bible verse. When we write things down, it helps us understand and remember.

’34 “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware,  35 like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth.  36 Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”  ‘
Luke 21:34-36

O – OBSERVATION Take some time to notice the details. What stands out to you? Who was the message intended for? What main lesson is God speaking to you?

Jesus tells of some horrible times headed our way. Reading this makes me believe I really need to be on guard, alert, and mindful. I don’t know how many times I get caught up in the worries of this life. 1 Corinthians also tells me to be on guard and to stand firm.

‘Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. And do everything with love.’
1 Corinthians 16:13-14

A – APPLICATION Think about how the verse relates to your life. What is God saying to me personally? How can you apply this teaching today?

How many times have I caught myself being unaware or on autopilot, scrolling mindlessly through social media?  I need to keep my focus on Christ. My relationship with Christ should be the number 1 thing on my daily TO-DO list, and being Christlike to everyone I encounter should be number 2 daily. I need to incorporate this into my morning routine and meditate on this daily.

P – PRAYER Finish your study with a prayer about what you’ve learned. Ask for help applying this lesson, and thank Him for His word and many blessings.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your word, grace, mercy, and love that we have through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Lord, help me to be the warrior I am called to be, to watch myself, to stay alert and focused on your will. Amen.
