Gather With The Great “I AM”

We are moving right along in our reading of the Bible this year; today’s New Testament reading is Hebrews 7. I love how verses 24-26 describe Jesus. Reading these words, I feel reminded of just how complete and amazing His love and intercession are for us. It encourages me to place my trust in Him more fully, knowing that Jesus is always present and at work on my behalf.

‘But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.   He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven. ‘
Hebrews 7:24-26

Jesus is holy and blameless, he lives forever, and has been given the highest place in heaven. Reading this and the last part of the verse of the day, Matthew 18:20, spoke to me this morning.

‘For where two or three are gathered in My name [meeting together as My followers], I am there among them.” [Ex 3:14]  ‘
Matthew 18:20

Christ Jesus lives forever; his priesthood lasts forever. When we get together and pray, when we go to church, Jesus is with us. When I think about Christ saying, “I am there among them,” it reminds me of Exodus 3:14

‘God replied to Moses, “I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.” ‘
Exodus 3:14

I AM is with us when we gather together as Christ followers. The same God who revealed himself to Moses, who saved him from execution as a baby, saved him to lead the people out of slavery. The same magnificent God, whose greatness we can’t even begin to imagine. He has not only saved us from the fires of hell, but He has saved us for something greater than we can imagine.

As we think about this, I encourage us to take a moment today to pray together with someone or reflect with a friend on how God has shown His greatness in our lives. It is in these simple steps that we grow closer to Him and to each other.

Just as Pharaoh didn’t listen to God’s warnings in Exodus 10 and 11, we see history repeating itself today. Our “leadership” in the United States has been corrupt for decades. Several years ago, I was praying, and I felt like God was telling me to ‘follow the horse.’ Taking this literally, we have kept multiple horses, sometimes up to ten, primarily those from the racetrack. We aim to transform them into trail horses. This experience became a metaphor for my faith journey. As I worked…

Yesterday, my youngest and I were in the truck running errands, and he brought up confession. He said a Sunday School teacher told him that Catholics believe the priest forgives people’s sins. I told him that wasn’t correct, that Catholics believe only God forgives sins. The Catholic Catechism states that only God forgives sins (CCC…
