Letters of Recommendation

“In 2 Corinthians 3, Paul writes that we don’t need paper letters of recommendation because we are the letters. The Holy Spirit writes our lives for everyone to see.

2The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. 3Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts. ‘
2 Corinthians 3:2-3

Our daily walk should produce daily results.

Reading this hit me hard. Our daily walk should produce daily results. Our families, friends, and neighbors should be able to read our lives and see a ‘good recommendation’ of Christ’s work.

Looking back, I’ve made so many mistakes. There were years when I lived so far off the path that I couldn’t have bought a good recommendation. If my life were an Amazon product, I would have been a 1-star listing. But I am so thankful for Jesus, His grace, and His forgiveness!

My prayer now is for a life that earns a better review. A good daily reflection might be: ‘How many stars would Jesus give my actions today?’ Or even: ‘How many stars would my neighbor give me?’ I want my life to be a reference worth reading.”
