Exodus 26, 27, and Romans 11

While I’m reading Exodus 26 and 27 today, I’m reminded of just how specific God’s instructions to Moses are. God gets into the details. I feel I don’t ask God to help me with the details of my own life. We pray about the big things, but we often neglect the small ones. We often go through life on autopilot, not even realizing a lot of the choices we make. The Tabernacle tent showed us that God wants to be close, but sin keeps us out, like a locked door; the sacrifices and the veil were hints that Jesus would fix that. Maybe today, we could pause and ask God about one small decision or detail in our lives, and see how He wants to be involved right there, too.

Then, reading Romans 11, Paul reveals God’s plan for bringing us close to him, actually grafting us in like branches. It doesn’t get any closer than being grafted in, getting our nourishment from being rooted in Christ’s immeasurable love for us.

Heavenly Father, I invite you into the details of my life, to make your home in my heart. Help me be strengthened today by your immeasurable love; help me share your love for others. In Jesus name, Amen.

‘Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. ‘

Reading Exodus 18 this morning, I found it really cool that Jethro, Moses’s father-in-law, had heard about everything that God had done for Moses and his people, and he traveled to the wilderness to meet them. Jethro was a Midianite; he wasn’t Jewish. He was a high priest in their religion; the Midianites were most…
