Luke 8

“The seeds on the rocky soil represent those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they believe for a while, then they fall away when they face temptation.”

Man, the Parable of the Farmer Scattering Seed hit me hard. And it seems this has been much of my life. I get on the right path, but the temptations and distractions of this world pull me away from it, from God’s plan for me. I believe God has a unique, strategic, and perfect plan for every one of us. And the enemy also has a plan for us, and I need to keep a radical focus on Jesus so I don’t fall for those schemes. I need to pray the prayer in Ephesians for myself, my family, friends, and everyone I meet.

“I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”

In studying Genesis 29, we learn that Jacob, on the run from his brother Esau, finds himself in the land of his Uncle Laban. He makes it to a well, and bam, Rachel shows up; we see God’s perfect timing again. It was customary in those days for a man to work to earn a…
