A Thousand Years Before
It’s day 170 of following the solidlives.com plan in reading through the Bible this year. And today’s readings were Psalm 22 and Matthew 27.
Psalm 22 was prophetic and written 1,000 years before Christ.
Psalm 22:1 corresponds to Jesus’ cry in Matthew 27:46. Both passages contain the words, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ Jesus repeated this verse on the cross, showing that he was fulfilling the prophecy spoken centuries earlier. The method of crucifixion wasn’t even invented for 450 years after this Psalm was written. This connection reveals the depth of meaning in his suffering and highlights how the crucifixion was foretold in the Bible.
Jesus pointed everyone watching to its ultimate fulfillment. Reading further, the mocking crowds in Matthew 27:39-43 perfectly mirror the scoffers in Psalm 22:7-8, and the soldiers gambling for His clothes in Matthew 27:35 directly fulfill Psalm 22:18.
For me, this is undeniable proof that the Father of Lights divinely illuminates sacred scripture. Seeing how these prophecies were written centuries before Jesus and fulfilled so precisely strengthens my faith and reminds me that God’s Word is inspired. It encourages me to trust the Bible more deeply in my daily life, knowing that God’s promises are real and trustworthy.
‘All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. ‘2 Timothy 3:16
