I often think about how much easier life would be if I were rich, if I hit the lottery. If we all drove nice cars, lived in nice houses without payments, and left our kids a big inheritance.
For when they die, they take nothing with them. Their wealth will not follow them into the grave. Psalms 49:17
Having money only solves your money problems.
While money is a necessity that eases life’s burdens, it must never become our priority. Our relationship with Christ and others should always be our number 1 priority.
‘19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them, and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Matthew 6:19-21
A spiritual inheritance outlasts a physical one.
Am I setting a good example today? Am I leading as a true servant? How am I living not just for myself, but for others? What kind of spiritual inheritance am I going to leave for others?
‘I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t have to do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved.’ 1 Corinthians 10:33
I don’t just do what is best for me.
When I die, I pray my daily walk with Christ points others toward salvation. May I give so much of myself that I leave behind a legacy of love—and perhaps a smile—knowing I lived for their gain, not my own.
Maybe they will also say something like Jack Handey’s quote.

In studying Genesis 29, we learn that Jacob, on the run from his brother Esau, finds himself in the land of his Uncle Laban. He makes it to a well, and bam, Rachel shows up; we see God’s perfect timing again. It was customary in those days for a man to work to earn a…
The Spirit reminded me this morning of my priorities as I read 1 Corinthians 2:2. I dwell on my problems too much. I think I need to forget about everything except Jesus Christ. I need to give everything and everyone to him. When I start to think about negativity, I need to pause and reflect…
Job longs for the good old days. We never know when a disaster will strike. This reminds me to be thankful for now—the time I have with my family, friends, and all my many blessings. I just had to replace an outdoor hydrant. Working in the cold and wet ticks me off — my beard…
We are working our way through Judges; there’s a common theme. When the Israelites get a good leader, they do well; when the leader dies, they screw up. ‘That is the story of how the people of Israel defeated Midian, which never recovered. Throughout the rest of Gideon’s lifetime—about forty years—there was peace in the…
In Job 22, Eliphaz goes after Job again, accusing him and saying, “Your situation is a direct result of your limitless sins.” I realize I can be like Eliphaz sometimes, quick to judge myself and others and assume the worst. I need to remember the Golden Rule—not just to treat others as I want to…
We lost an hour to daylight savings time, and it’s thrown my entire day out of whack. But reading Exodus 34 this morning, I really love what God says about his character. ‘6The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger…
