Exodus 34

We lost an hour to daylight savings time, and it’s thrown my entire day out of whack. But reading Exodus 34 this morning, I really love what God says about his character.

‘⁶The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.   ⁷I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.” ‘
Exodus 34:6-7

God is perfect; He has perfect justice, perfect timing, and perfect love for us. The sins affecting multiple generations remind me I need to strive to be more like Jesus every day.

Heavenly Father, I’m so thankful for your compassion and mercy! I’m thankful that you are slow to anger, filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. I’m thankful for your forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
