Job 1, 2, Luke 6

Man, there’s a lot to soak in in today’s readings. Job lost everything but his integrity, his 10 kids that he loved, and thousands of animals. But he didn’t lose his integrity. He still praised God. I don’t know how many times I’ve run into small messes and crashed out; I need to be more like Job. God is in control.

‘He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord !”

I liked how his friends sat with him, too, and didn’t say anything for days. Job 2:13
A good friend, student, or apprentice will listen and follow. I heard but didn’t follow. I catch myself listening but not following what people are saying. I messed up a large part of my life because I listened but didn’t follow Jesus. I built my house on sand.
I’m so thankful for Christ, his forgiveness, patience, his word, and his expert foundation repair.
Luke 6:46-49

Lord, help me to be a good listener.

The Walk to Emmaus The empty tomb! Jesus has risen. He’s back! Two fellas who followed Jesus encounter the risen Lord on their walk to Emmaus. They don’t know it’s him (verse 16). He talks with them, they fill him in on what’s been happening in Jerusalem, like he doesn’t know. Then, in verse 27,…

Cain didn’t do what was right, and God didn’t accept his gift. I wonder if he offered up a bunch of old stuff, stuff he typically feeds to his animals? Here are some moldy carrots, I usually give to the donkies. Regardless, it reminded me of the verse in Romans. ‘And so, dear brothers and…

This morning I’m reading 1 Corinthians 3, and I feel like I need to start taking better care of my body. Health experts classify being 30 pounds overweight as obesity. I need to make better lifestyle choices. I don’t want the temple to be so big that the Holy Spirit gets lost. I don’t want…

  • John 6

Today’s reading, John 6, shows Christ’s absolute authority. A boy hands Jesus 5 loaves and 2 fish—barely enough for a family—, yet Jesus feeds 5,000 people, with 12 baskets left over. This defies explanation; only God could do it. Christ is the authority over all things. Later, the disciples are 4 miles out in rough…
