Job 37

We are in the middle of a severe snowstorm. As I waded out to feed the horses, the snow was up to my knees, which made me reflect on Job 37: 9, 10.

9The stormy wind comes from its chamber, and the driving winds bring the cold. 10God’s breath sends the ice, freezing wide expanses of water.’

Our pond is solid ice, and with the blanket of snow, it’s hard to tell there’s even a pond there. A variety of birds braved the harsh winter wind to visit our bird feeder and grab a bite to eat. The brutal winter storm and today’s reading are such a great reminder of how great, powerful, and incredibly undescribable God is.

In the harsh winter morning, it made me appreciate God in a new way. He’s created this universe, holds it all together, and loves all of his creation, from the little birds to us little human beings, immensely. I can’t imagine the greatness of His power.

Birds feeding around a bird feeder, January 25th snow storm, 11:30 am, about 12 inches of snow now.

5God’s voice is glorious in the thunder. We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power.

23We cannot imagine the power of the Almighty; but even though he is just and righteous, he does not destroy us.

Job 37: 5 and 23

God’s love, mercy, grace, and his immense, glorious power are always there for us, regardless of the season we are going through.

24Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! ‘
Luke 12:24

11We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. ‘

Today’s reading, John 6, shows Christ’s absolute authority. A boy hands Jesus 5 loaves and 2 fish—barely enough for a family—, yet Jesus feeds 5,000 people, with 12 baskets left over. This defies explanation; only God could do it. Christ is the authority over all things. Later, the disciples are 4 miles out in rough…
