Luke 14

Reading Luke 14 today, 26-27, and 33 punched me in the gut. Being a true disciple means having my life revolve around Christ. It’s not something I can do once; it’s a daily choice to pick up my cross and be transformed by God. To be truly Christ-centered, an authentic disciple, I must give up everything.

For much of my time as a Christian, I’ve given bits and pieces, but my life hasn’t really been Christ-centered. Not really salty, I’ve been more of a salt substitute like that fake “no salt” 🙂 In my younger years, I claimed to be a Christian, but did not go to church or read the Bible. I’d party and ask forgiveness. I wasn’t seeking God. I was pursuing my own pleasures. I was baptized and a believer, but there wasn’t much evidence of being authentic. Not the real thing.

In my morning prayers, I need to ask the Holy Spirit for help being authentic every day. —  Is there anything that’s keeping me from being a true disciple? What do I need to give up today, my stresses, my worries?

Maybe instead of a daily “ToDo” list, I need a “Give Up” list for each day. Hopefully, my “Give Up” list will be much shorter by the time I get to the end of my journey.

‘So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own. ‘

I’m finally getting back on track after losing an hour to the time change. This morning’s reading was Exodus 36 and 37. God gifted Bezalel, Oholiab, and other skilled craftsmen with wisdom and…

We are working our way through Judges; there’s a common theme. When the Israelites get a good leader, they do well; when the leader dies, they screw up. ‘That is the story of how the people of Israel defeated Midian, which never recovered. Throughout the rest of Gideon’s lifetime—about forty years—there was peace in the…
