Luke 10

I don’t know how many times I’ve let the details and distractions of this world negatively affect my relationship with Christ and others. Verses 38-41 remind me to be alert and to guard my spiritual focus.

When Jesus visits Mary and Martha, Mary is hanging out with Jesus, while Martha is busy with the details of getting ready for a big dinner. She asks Jesus, “I’m doing all the work here; don’t you think it’s unfair that Martha is just sitting around with you?”

‘But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”‘ Luke 10:41-42, https://www.bible.com/bible/116/LUK.10.41-42

Mary discovered the 1 thing we should be concerned with above all else. Our relationship with Christ and being close to him. Mary chose to focus on Jesus; this is a reminder of where my focus should be, not on my worldly distractions.

I find the lives of the early Christians fascinating. In Acts 13, the prophets and teachers of the church in Antioch were fasting and worshiping the Lord. I wonder what our world would look like if members of the church gathered more often to worship, fast, and pray. It seems like we usually go to…

Today’s readings are Samuel 1-3 and Matthew 3. We learn about Hannah, who prays to God to have a child. She promises God that if she has a son, she’ll dedicate him to serving Him. She has a son, Samuel, and fulfills her vow, and Samuel becomes an apprentice to Eli. Eli’s sons were bullies;…
