Stay Alert

Today’s verse of the day is 1 Peter 5:8.

‘Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. ‘
1 Peter 5:8

While reading 2 Corinthians 2 this morning, verses 1-11 grabbed me by the collar. We need to forgive others and reaffirm our love for those who hurt us, so that the enemy won’t trap us.

‘so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes. ‘
2 Corinthians 2:11

The enemy has had thousands of years to study human behavior; he knows our strengths and weaknesses. He’s on the prowl, looking for food. There’s a saying in the self-defense world.

If you don’t want to be eaten, don’t look like food

It’s the same way for spiritual self-defense. We can’t act like prey; we have to stay alert. We have to be mindful of our spiritual condition and remember that we are fighting. We must stay alert and avoid situations and behaviors, such as unforgiveness, that make us easy targets for the enemy.

‘For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. ‘
Ephesians 6:12

While reading Acts 26 this morning, Paul is defending his beliefs before King Agrippa. He talks about how zealous he was in his attempt to silence the early Christians.
