From “Creep Vibes” to Clear Truth
We are trucking right along through the Bible, and this morning, Deuteronomy 18:10-12 made me stop and ponder.
‘10For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. 12Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you. ‘
Deuteronomy 18:10-12
I never thought about how witchcraft, fortune-telling, mediums, and psychics are detestable to God, right up there with child sacrifice. All of these practices are trying to manipulate our future, or God; they are all dangerous. Even some of the common things people try today—like reading horoscopes, using crystals for energy, or following astrology apps—can fit into what this warns about. These might seem less serious than what the scripture describes, but they’re all ways people look for guidance or power outside of God, and they are all extremely risky.
Though I’ve met ‘white witches’ and ‘good psychics,’ I’ve always kept my distance. I often feel a ‘creep vibe’ simply being in their presence. And after reading today’s scripture, I wonder: where are they actually getting their information from? 2 Corinthians 11:14 tells us that satan disguises himself as an angel of light. We need to stay in God’s word and ask for protection, wisdom, and discernment now more than ever. If you’ve fallen into that trap, it’s important to renounce, repent, and ask for mercy through Jesus, and seek out Spirit-filled Christian help. I pray that we always seek the Father of Lights, the mercy and grace of Christ, and look to the Holy Spirit to guide us.
Consulting Tarot cards, witches, psychics, or any of that stuff can open up doorways to evil. The Exorcist Files has a wild podcast on a young lady who tried it once, and it changed her world.
