Leading with wisdom
We began today in 2 Chronicles 1, where God appears to Solomon with a staggering question:
“What do you want?”
Of all things to ask the creator of the universe, he asks for wisdom. Solomon wants wisdom to lead the people of Israel.
‘Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?” God said to Solomon, “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame, or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people— I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested. But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!” ‘
2 Chronicles 1:10-12
Solomon forgot himself entirely to focus on his people. He wanted to lead them well. It makes me wonder:
How many of us would possess that same selfless desire to ask for wisdom today?
John Luke and I are helping with VBS this week. The verse of the week is Matthew 28:19.
‘Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. ‘
Matthew 28:19
As Christ followers, we are called to lead people to Him. As a parent, I’m called to lead my kids properly; I can’t do that without wisdom. If everyone and everything ultimately belongs to God, praying daily for the wisdom to lead properly isn’t just a good idea; it’s essential.
