Spiritual Training
Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.
1 Timothy 4:8
This stood out to me today. There are so many fitness programs to get people into shape. 24-hour gyms, yoga studios, weight training, resistance training, and diet training. People will pay for a personal trainer to get into shape. But how do we train for godliness??
People will create habits and go to the gym 3 days a week. But leave their spiritual training to 1 hour a week, if that. I think we have to seek him continually. I need to train physically better, but what if we combined both? I used to push my body in lifting weights, but never did push my spirit. How do I push my spirit to seek God continually? To look for Christ in everything and everyone. Spiritual training has benefits that pay off now and later.
I used to challenge myself to bench press—to “max out” —and to eat healthy. How do I max out in Spiritual Training? Continually seek him. Read, study, to write, to love like Christ. Maybe it’s spending more time reading, eating less, speaking less, praying more, getting uncomfortable, denying myself, and focusing more on Christ to come up with a training plan for myself and others. How do I prove that? How do I see results? What’s my goal weight, my spiritual goal weight? Where do I max out? How do I serve more, pray more?
Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.
1 Chronicles 16:11
How do I get better spiritually? Continually seek the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings.
