What’s your 30 pieces of silver?

We are truckin’ right through the Bible this year, and today’s New Testament reading is Matthew 26. We learn that the leading priests want to kill Jesus and that Judas will betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

‘Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests  and asked, “How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver. From that time on, Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
Matthew 26:14-16

Jesus knows that Judas will betray him.

‘While they were eating, he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me.” ‘
Matthew 26:21

Today’s reading really made me think. How many times have I betrayed Christ? I betray Him every time I respond without kindness, grace, and love, and every time I put my own desires before those of the Father. I’ve sold out. Today’s verse is 1 John 2:6.

‘Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. ‘
1 John 2:6

I claim to live in Christ, but do my thoughts, words, and actions convey this?

Lord, I’m so thankful for the perfect example of Jesus. Even when death stared him in the face, he never sold out. He always put God the Father’s perfect will above his own. Lord, forgive my betrayal; I need a new heart, a heart like Jesus. Lord, help me to be faithful, not to be a sellout. Holy Spirit, guide me on the right path, advise and watch over me.
