Leviticus 19

‘“Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy. ‘
Leviticus 19:2

I heard that Pope John Paul was once sick, and a nun was tending to him. He had a fever, and she said, “I’m worried about Your Holiness,” and he said I’m worried about my holiness, too.

Thank God for his grace and the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ—my holiness is a work in progress; I fall, but I keep getting back up, asking for forgiveness. I’ve got some dings and dents in my halo for sure. But I’m going to trust the Holy Lamb of God to take away my sins.

    Genesis 49

In reading Genesis 49, Jacob is on his deathbed. He delivers a prophetic message to his descendants and gives them instructions for burial. The message in verse 31 hit me this morning. ‘31There Abraham and his wife Sarah are buried. There Isaac and his wife, Rebekah, are buried. And there I buried Leah. ‘Genesis 49:31…

Man, there’s a lot to soak in in today’s readings. Job lost everything but his integrity, his 10 kids that he loved, and thousands of animals. But he didn’t lose his integrity. He still praised God. I don’t know how many times I’ve run into small messes and crashed out; I need to be more…

  • Acts 13

I find the lives of the early Christians fascinating. In Acts 13, the prophets and teachers of the church in Antioch were fasting and worshiping the Lord. I wonder what our world would look like if members of the church gathered more often to worship, fast, and pray. It seems like we usually go to…

  • Acts 20

A few things stood out to me this morning, reading Acts 20. He’s talking to the Ephesian elders; it’s his farewell address. He talks about not shrinking back from telling them what they needed to hear, about his focused message. He tells them to be on guard, for themselves and God’s people. I had to…

  • Romans 12

Today’s reading of Romans 12 is an intense call to action. Paul pleads with us to give our bodies to God, in light of all that God has done for us, the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. He’s calling us to be living holy sacrifices and says that’s the way to worship him. I…
