In this world, you will have trouble.
Sometimes life can suck. Christ told us that we will have many trials and sorrows. 2 Corinthians 1 brings to mind my friend and her son. My friend takes her faith seriously; she’s Spirit-filled and one of the most authentic Christ followers I know. Her son had muscular dystrophy and was bedridden for years.
‘I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”‘
John 16:33
A man with the “gift” of healing came in and prayed for him. Then he told her that her son wasn’t going to be healed because of her lack of faith. Hearing that disgusted me. That legalism is a stench, but she didn’t let it rattle her. Her son passed; he’s got a new body and is in perfect peace with Christ. My friend is still one of the most faith-filled, Spirit-led Christians I know. She has gone on to help many people through their own trials.
We have to face the hard truth
Sometimes God doesn’t answer our prayers the way we want; sometimes, miracles don’t happen. We need to trust God; His ways are higher than ours. Paul explains there’s a reason and a purpose for our troubles.
‘He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. ‘
2 Corinthians 1:4
