Exodus 18

Reading Exodus 18 this morning, I found it really cool that Jethro, Moses’s father-in-law, had heard about everything that God had done for Moses and his people, and he traveled to the wilderness to meet them. Jethro was a Midianite; he wasn’t Jewish. He was a high priest in their religion; the Midianites were most likely pagan or polytheistic.

But after Moses testifies to Jethro, he learns firsthand of all the awesome things God has done. He praises God, and now he knows the truth.

‘¹⁰ “Praise the Lord,” Jethro said, “for he has rescued you from the Egyptians and from Pharaoh. Yes, he has rescued Israel from the powerful hand of Egypt! ¹¹I know now that the Lord is greater than all other gods, because he rescued his people from the oppression of the proud Egyptians.””
Exodus 18:10-11

I wonder what the world would be like if we shared our story and all the great things God has done for us? Just as the Israelites, we too have been rescued and saved by our Lord Jesus.

‘⁸But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. ⁹And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. ¹⁰For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. ¹¹So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. ‘
Romans 5:8-11

We should boldly proclaim the good news. I haven’t shared my testimony with very many people. I don’t know if I’m scared of the reaction or of what people might think of me. But I’m feeling called that I’m supposed to. Maybe I should worry less about being a people pleaser and more of a God pleaser. Maybe I’m hanging on to the old me? Maybe someone hearing our testimony will be helped and encouraged to follow Christ.

‘So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”‘
Hebrews 13:6
