Genesis 49

In reading Genesis 49, Jacob is on his deathbed. He delivers a prophetic message to his descendants and gives them instructions for burial. The message in verse 31 hit me this morning.

31There Abraham and his wife Sarah are buried. There Isaac and his wife, Rebekah, are buried. And there I buried Leah. ‘
Genesis 49:31

Genesis often described Leah as “unloved”. She had to have felt “less than” her younger sister Rachel. But she’s laid to rest in a place of honor, with Jacob and the rest of the family. Leah’s legacy goes way beyond her life. King David and Jesus are both descendants of Judah. God is so full of compassion and mercy. He often uses and blesses the overlooked, and he loves those who feel unloved.

Lord, You are the Lion of Judah. The Prince of Peace. The Eternal King. Help me to tell my loved ones that I love them more often. Help me to speak of your love to those who feel unloved and overlooked.
