Acts 17

The mob strikes again, chasing Paul all over the place in Acts 17. Paul and Silas wind up in Berea, and the Bereans set a great example in verse 11.

11Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.

Acts 17:11

The Bereans received the message with eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day. That’s a great challenge for us. To be eager, ready to receive the message and not just read, but examine the Scriptures daily. I find that if I don’t start my day with prayer and Scripture, my day falls flat.

Here’s my morning routine

  • Pray, think about Mark 12:29-31.
  • Drink 40 ounces of water to flush my system.
  • Turn the coffee pot on.
  • Kneel before the Cross, pray my prayer list.
  • Snag some coffee, start my Bible study.

This is just my morning routine. I’ve been doing this for a while now, and it’s helped me get my day off to a good start. Is it perfect? No, am I? Not even close, but I know a perfect guy, and he’s helping me be better. He forgives me when I fall short, or in my case, fall long. But, I’m inching along, making progress in Christ Perfection. What is your morning routine?

Reading Acts 17:22-31, I had to read it a couple of times. The way Paul describes God is just too cool. The way he speaks their language, he doesn’t start off talking about Moses; he talks about “the unknown God” altar. Paul gets down to people’s level; he meets them where they are, just like Christ. Christ meets us where we are; he speaks our language. He understands us, loves us, and wants a relationship with us.

Have you ever seen God? Reading Job 42, I love how Job says, I’d only heard about you before, but now I’ve seen you with my own eyes. Job experienced God, which led him to repent. This makes me wonder, do people see God through me? Do they experience Christ’s love through what they see,…

Just as Pharaoh didn’t listen to God’s warnings in Exodus 10 and 11, we see history repeating itself today. Our “leadership” in the United States has been corrupt for decades. In Job 15 and Luke 13, the Bible offers examples that remind us suffering isn’t always a result of sin, encouraging self-reflection and trust in God’s plan. But Christ will go through our trials with us; we need to repent and turn to him. It’s hard for me to look at rough patches and problems…
