John 6

Today’s reading, John 6, shows Christ’s absolute authority. A boy hands Jesus 5 loaves and 2 fish—barely enough for a family—, yet Jesus feeds 5,000 people, with 12 baskets left over. This defies explanation; only God could do it. Christ is the authority over all things.

Later, the disciples are 4 miles out in rough water when Jesus comes to them, walking on the sea. They are terrified, but Jesus reassures them, “Don’t be afraid, I am here.” They bring him aboard and immediately reach their destination. Christ again shows authority and does the impossible.

‘Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. ‘
Matthew 28:18

This chapter is deep and deserves further study. I love how Jesus can do anything, and I also love how Christ tells us how to live.

‘But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.” ‘
John 6:27

This verse hit me. I spend too much time and energy on things of little value when my time and energy would be better spent seeking Christ. Submitting to the authority of Jesus Christ in every aspect of my life daily.

Dear Heavenly Father, I’m grateful for all my many blessings, the miracles in my life. Lord, we need the light of your Holy Spirit to guide us in this dark world. Help us submit to your authority, to spend our time and energy seeking you. To remember not to fear, you are with us, you can do the impossible, and you are our true help in any storm. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
