Serve before you scroll

I love how the people in today’s reading, Joshua 24,  that Joshua says – “But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord,” and the people declare out loud, “We will serve the Lord!

‘But the people answered Joshua, “No, we will serve the Lord!” The people said to Joshua, “We will serve the Lord our God. We will obey him alone.” ‘
Joshua 24:21,24

I wonder what our lives would be like if we made serving the LORD our daily priority? At the top of our to-do list, we should write I will serve the LORD. I think that needs to be my prayer and reflection. I need to say this out loud throughout today. Every time we pick up our phones, we should make the declaration, “I will serve the LORD.”

Before I close my eyes to sleep, I need to ask myself, How did I serve the LORD today?

Today’s New Testament reading was Colossians 1. Paul opens with an awesome prayer—one we can easily adapt for ourselves and others. Praying this way will help us encourage and grow together.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for rescuing us from the kingdom of darkness. I ask that you give us complete knowledge of your will. I ask for spiritual wisdom and understanding. Holy Spirit, strengthen us with your glorious power, so we will have the patience and endurance to honor, please, and serve you. Lord, keep us focused on you today; keep us from drifting to the left or the right. Lord of all creation, you alone know the best pathway for our lives. Thank you for advising and watching over us. In Jesus name, Amen.

I’m not a fan of traveling. I’m a homebody, and travel today is a lot easier than it was in Paul’s time. I hate being stuck in an airport for a few hours. Reading Acts 27, we learn that travel was much more dangerous and that the weather played a major role. Paul warns the…

I had been thinking about my old church and my time as a youth pastor. I drove by the old church last month, and it was now someones house. Well, I was looking in an old folder that I haven’t used for at least 12 years. It’s a nice leather organizer that I got from…

I love how God lets Adam name all the animals; it’s like he wants his input. I think that’s one of the cool things about God. I believe God is excited to see what we are going to do. I believe he wants us to share our ideas, thoughts, our highs and lows with him….

Yesterday, I almost wrote about Romans 1, but I felt a stronger need to write about leadership. I’m so glad I didn’t, I feel like reading Romans 1 without reading Romans 2 could be dangerous. Paul lists a bunch of sins in Romans 1:18-32. And if we stop there, it’s easy to judge others and…

Reading Luke 14 today, 26-27, and 33 punched me in the gut. Being a true disciple means having my life revolve around Christ. It’s not something I can do once; it’s a daily choice to pick up my cross and be transformed by God. To be truly Christ-centered, an authentic disciple, I must give up…
