Serve before you scroll

I love how the people in today’s reading, Joshua 24,  that Joshua says – “But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord,” and the people declare out loud, “We will serve the Lord!

‘But the people answered Joshua, “No, we will serve the Lord!” The people said to Joshua, “We will serve the Lord our God. We will obey him alone.” ‘
Joshua 24:21,24

I wonder what our lives would be like if we made serving the LORD our daily priority? At the top of our to-do list, we should write I will serve the LORD. I think that needs to be my prayer and reflection. I need to say this out loud throughout today. Every time we pick up our phones, we should make the declaration, “I will serve the LORD.”

Before I close my eyes to sleep, I need to ask myself, How did I serve the LORD today?

Today’s New Testament reading was Colossians 1. Paul opens with an awesome prayer—one we can easily adapt for ourselves and others. Praying this way will help us encourage and grow together.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for rescuing us from the kingdom of darkness. I ask that you give us complete knowledge of your will. I ask for spiritual wisdom and understanding. Holy Spirit, strengthen us with your glorious power, so we will have the patience and endurance to honor, please, and serve you. Lord, keep us focused on you today; keep us from drifting to the left or the right. Lord of all creation, you alone know the best pathway for our lives. Thank you for advising and watching over us. In Jesus name, Amen.
