Genesis 35
In Genesis 35, God tells Jacob get ready to move to Bethel to settle. In verse 2, Jacob told everyone in his household, “Get rid of all your pagan idols, purify yourselves, and put on clean clothes. He takes the idols and earrings, buries them under a tree, and moves on out of the area. He didn’t just put them away; he got rid of them. He’s turning away from the old ways and is committing himself and his household to God.
This got me thinking about my life, what do I need to get rid of and clean up to move? Maybe it’s the digital clutter, like scrolling on TikTok or Instagram. Or perhaps it’s a physical item in my space that needs to be replaced with an alter? Maybe unhealthy habits?
Lent starts February 18th this year. If you aren’t familiar with Lent, it’s the 40-day period leading up to Easter. It’s a time to prepare our spirits for the Risen Lord Jesus. Lent’s been around for over 2,000 years and offers a time of spiritual reflection and renewal. Lent is an excellent time for a spiritual reset.
Usually, people step up their fasting, prayer, and helping others during Lent. I need to pray about what I need to get rid of and clean up in my household, and in my mind. What’s getting in the way of my focusing on my faith? Where does God want me to move? Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me in God’s Will?
